Why did you create the Switch Platform?

Vivienne Westwood and her son Joe Corre have long been supporters of using green energy. Following the collaboration on the Switch Campaign with the British Fashion Council we recognised that one of the barriers to switching was the actual process! With the input of green energy providers and fashion retailers we have tried to make the process for making an informed decision easier and quicker. We ultimately want the U.K. Fashion industry to lead the way in switching to green energy.

What do you mean by ‘green energy’?

We strive to promote 100% sustainable energy provision. Our Platform makes it clear how each provider generates their energy to help you make an informed decision. We don’t work with fossil fuel companies offering a green tariff. This handy guide from Julie’s Bicyle provides more insight on how green the energy across the UK is, including from our partners.

What is the connection to the Switch Campaign?

Vivienne Westwood collaborated with the British Fashion Council and Mayor of London to launch the Switch Campaign in 2017. The Platform is our response to the need to help achieve high volume switching, to remove the barriers to switching and to lean on the industry through the influence of Vivienne and Joe and to support with the expertise of the four green energy providers. The British Fashion Council are actively supporting us to promote the platform and will be part of our future plans for events, promotion and press engagement. You can find out more about the Switch Campaign on the website of the British Fashion Council.

I have a question about your platform, how do I contact you?

You can reach us via the Contact Us page and we will direct your question to the best partner to respond. We are a small team of voluntary collaborators so bear with us! We aim to reply to all genuine requests.

Why these four green energy providers?

Vivienne and Joe reached out to six green energy providers initially and four agreed to collaborate. Vivienne and Joe felt it was important that any companies who came on board must sign up to the principles of collaboration, transparency and shared ownership! We are equal partners in delivering this platform. Collaborating means we aren’t telling you which of the companies to select for your green energy needs, but we are happy to share our experiences of our green energy provision.

Can other energy companies get involved?

Yes! We are committed to the current partnership during this phase of our launch but in the near future we hope to add more green energy providers, providing they too collaborate fully and meet the criteria of being a true green energy provider.

Does Vivienne Westwood use green energy?

Vivienne Westwood has had a long standing relationship with a green energy supplier has closely worked with their founder on promoting the use of green energy and a wide range of activism issues, such as anti-fracking campaigns. More information on this can be found via Vivienne’s social media campaigns and website. Vivienne is the inspiration behind many other fashion retailers switching to green energy.

Are you making commission from these sales?

No. Early on we agreed the principle of not having a race to the bottom on price, but each of the partners would be transparent in offering their best prices at the time of switching (as is the normal practice for all four providers). Taking a commission would make this more expensive for you. The platform is funded through the philanthropy of Vivienne Westwood, Joe Corre and the sponsorship of Bulb, Ecotricity, Good Energy and Octopus Energy.

How will you know this campaign has worked?

We are tracking the change in energy use and the number of companies who move from pledging to switch, to actual switches! Together with our partners the British Fashion Council we’ll report publicly on progress.

How do you support actual switching?

Our approach is to help fashion companies make an informed decision more quickly than if they were searching without the support. We aren’t a price comparison site – we focus on the full range of variables that matter when making a decision. We are also here to share our experiences, dispelling some of the fears about the switch process and in the near future we also aim to offer support through training and advice (watch this space!).
